WORK

First week of classes and my schedule is lookin' pretty fresh. Here is a picture of a print I did for my Serial Imagery class. The print is made with a Toray sheet which is basically a fancy
plate that allows you to print waterlessly and get an assload of detail. If you click the picture
you can see all the tiny scratches that printed, its pretty nuts. I also added watercolor to this print.

"Untitled (Lies)" - 9 x 12"

And finally here is some work that I did while in Ghana. The first is of the laptop sleeve prototype that my buddy Jake Zien and I designed and constructed. It is made out of 100% recycled materials, mainly plastic billboard material and flour sack for the lining. We ended up making three of these altogether, but this sweet brown one is mine.

One of the main features of the sleeve is that you can unzip it and use the material as a portable workspace for your laptop. This is a screenprint that we did on the inside of our sleeves, originally from a drawing that I did with the text added digitally:

And finally here are some pages of my sketchbook from the trip. Just a random selection:

Enjoy the newness

PROVIDENCE!

After several weeks of pain and torment I have finished my t-shirt design. I was able to find a scanner capable of retaining most of the information in the drawing, and the image is also vectorized to smooth out pixelation.
(Click the image above to view it bigger.)

(Design Detail)
I've included a few smaller details within the drawing including the Roman numerals for the year Providence was founded as well as the current year, the traditional Providence 'anchor', and an outline of the state of Rhode Island with Providence's location indicated by a star.

And here are a few color variations I am thinking about printing. I'm pretty sure I will go with silver/gold ink for the darker tee colors. These will be available in most sizes for $15 sometime in the not too distant future. Let me know if you have any special requests...
Thanks for reading,

Kyle*UPDATE*

I've traced a line around the design in PS and was able to modify a few details and invert the image so as to preserve the darks and lights from the original drawing. Looks like this guy might be the winner.
Production next week? Very possible...

Photography

Here are a few of the better photos that came out today in my first print developing session. I fooled around with filters a bit and did a bit of dodging on a couple prints. Overall, I think my photos came out ok, now that I have a little more information about aperture and f-stops I think I'll have better luck with my next couple rolls.
Shot on Tri-X 400 film with a Minolta X-700 with Tokion telephoto lens.

Here's a little preview of my new T-shirt project I've been working on for the past couple weeks. Progress is very slow but I think the end result will be worth it.... Stay tuned.

Til next time....

We have been bidding like crazy online for freelance projects and have created profiles on Elance.com and GetaFreeLancer.com. We're slowly but surely building up our portfolio and will soon conquer the world of commercial design, haha!
