summer boredom

I wish I could post some of the stuff I've been working on for Rome, because other than that I haven't really been doing any art this summer.  Theoretically though, I'm under strict orders to keep those images confidential until their release date.  I say theoretically because I never actually signed any agreement stating this, but from prior experience with the industry I know how important the element of surprise is, and who am I to spoil your fun?!  I did make this animated gif though, mainly because I was the only one in the office who knew how to make an animated gif, but still, the amount of creative license I put into this thing is astounding.  Probably about a .05 on a scale of 1 to 10.

Anyway here's a little friend I just finished, his name is harold.  He likes chick flicks and wine spritzers, but admittedly spends most of his time on my desk, quiet and still, staring emotionlessly at me through the dark circular void in the middle of his face.

T-shirt design for Space Caves.  Available for custom order in any color.  Purchase from 19 Something.

Space Caves is a lo-fi/post rock/electronic/dance metal/thrash/experimental outfit from Providence, RI.  Although their self-titled debut EP only clocks in at around 12 minutes, it is guaranteed to turn your brain to useless sludge before you finish listening.  As your eardrums are pummeled by heavily distorted rhythms and hypnotic guitar loops, you will simultaneously go deaf and reach a state of musical nirvana you never thought possible.  If I was in this band, I would probably be the coolest person I know...but alas.

You can download their album for FREE by clicking here:

They are playing a show on July 9th in Providence with locally revered lo-fi heroes, 'TONSTARTSSBANDHT' and 'RUN DMT'.  Get your ass to the Versailles Building!

This summer I'm interning at Rome SDS in Waterbury, VT.  I am working in the graphics department as an in-house illustrator a few days a week and so far I have already gotten to work on a whole slew of awesome stuff.  I have been sketching concepts and making graphics for hats, gloves, and boards for next year's product line.  I am completely stoked to be a part of such a sick company-- If you don't know Rome, you should check out their site, they are the shit.

There are many dogs roaming about the offices, who they belong to is often very much a mystery. Buster's favorite spot happens to be right under my desk..

This is a video. I made it in Flash for my design class. It is my tribute to Ray Bradbury, based on his short story, The Veldt. Hope you like it.

A longer description can be found on the Youtube page.

Here are some slightly less ambiguous pictures of the board graphics I worked on for Burton.  Found these up on easyloungin.com so I'm not doing any harm re-posting them hopefully.  This is the first time I've actually seen the color combos they selected, so I'm pretty much in the dark just as much as you.  Ah, the perks of being connected...

I've been asked several times, "Kyle, will you be getting one of these boards for free?!"
After exhaling deeply and stroking my furrowed brow,
I respond with a tepid, "Probably not."
